Prior to her tenure at Simms Russell, Meryem honed her skills at Kahloon Law, PLLC, McBrayer, and Clay Daniel Winner. Her early career as a Staff Attorney in Jefferson Family Circuit Court equipped her with a thorough understanding of the justice system and an intimate knowledge of family court's judicial decision-making processes.

A proud alumna of the University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law, Meryem's passion for law was ignited during her time in law school where she served on the Student Bar Association and worked as a student attorney at the Robert & Sue Ellen Ackerson Law Clinic. There, she provided indispensable support to survivors of domestic violence, shaping her future in legal advocacy.

Meryem's commitment extends beyond local courts to international human rights work. As a Legal Intern at the Federal Ombudsman Office for Protection Against Women in Islamabad, Pakistan, she advocated for women survivors of harassment and violence, further enriching her perspective and approach to family law.

Recognized for her profound impact in the field, Meryem received the Legal Aid Society’s Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2021, completed the prestigious Mary Bryon Project legal fellowship in 2022, and was nationally ranked in the top 10 under 40 by the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys in 2024.
